Hello! Could you tell me please if I should get a special snowboard for snowkiting or it doesn't really make a difference which board to use? Thanks, Alex |

Alex, Great question. While snowkiting, you'll ride heel-side much more than you do while riding downhill. Also, you'll be reverse direction and ride 'goofy' (still on the heel-side) almost as much as you ride 'regular.' For this reason, a snowkiteboard should be a perfect twin-tip. Normal snowboard manufacturers make twin-tip snowboards for freestyle/terrain-park riding, but they tend to be extra flexible and have aggressive side-cuts. Special snowkiteboards have been designed to provide stiffness and subtle heel-side side-cuts (good for holding an edge against the kite's pull), along with a perfect-twin tip shape. Some snowkiteboards are designed to be extremely light for freestyle tricks. Will you be ok using a normal downhill snowboard? Probably. It's what I use (for now). Let me know if this helps. -Eric |

Also, think about where you'll be kiting. If you'll be on lakes or out in fields without really deep snow, chances are that your board will take a beating. Unless you're an enthusiast and going to be out a lot and in good snow conditions then I would opt for a cheap, used board so that you don't have to worry about beating on it. I'm glad that I'm riding a beater when I turn it over and see grass stains on the heelside! You can put the extra $ into your kites. My understanding is that most snowboards made are now twin-tips. |

Thanks! That helps to know more about the boards. I don't really know about all these details how they're maid and used. I've never snowboarded before . I think I'll use the board on a deep and not deep snow. What brand or type of boards are you guys using? Where can I find a second hand board which is good for snowkiting? Could you please give me the name of the board? Thanks, Alex |
