The Windzup Team is heading north to Alaska for one of the last Snowkite Freerides on this years North American tour. This Friday thru Sunday we will be in the Anchorage region, riding with the locals at spots from the Portage Glacier to Hatcher Pass. From there the RV caravan heads to Valdez, with hopes of Snowkiting the epic Thompson pass.
We are joining the Kite Alaska.com crew, who has been pioneering and exploring the southern half of the state for legitimate locations. All the beta points to exactly what you would expect of Alaska...cold, snow, wind, and many different spots ranging from glaciers, to lakes to endless mountain passes.
Snowkites are not a new site in the Alaskan backcountry, and mountaineers have been adapting wind power to their expeditionary pursuits on dozens of far off icefields. Rather than an intense backcountry adventure, we are psyched to be exploring, no exploiting the roadside potential for Snowkiting Alaska. If you are in AK we welcome you to join us in the Anchorage and Valdez areas, or pack up for the roady and see what we can find.
